The Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) on February 18 received 3G technology development and business applications from seven mobile telecom firms namely VinaPhone, MobiFone, Viettel, EVN Telecom, Saigon Postal and Telecommunication Service Joint Stock Co (SPT), Gtel Mobile and Hanoi Telecom. The seven firms submitted six applications because one was made under the cooperation of EVN Telecom and Hanoi Telecom.
The 3G-technology licensing contest has come to the final stage and candidates are waiting for the appraisal of MIC. The 3G Jury Council will research these applications and four licenses will be granted. The results will be released in late-April 2009.The 3G license is said to be vital to the development of mobile networks in Viet Nam.
